A career built on both sides of the courtroom.

John D. Kirby graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California and cum laude from Cornell Law School. He began his legal career at Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C.

He spent more than a decade as a federal prosecutor at the United States Attorney's Office in the Southern District of California, handling serious criminal investigations and prosecutions.

As an Assistant United States Attorney, he prosecuted white-collar crime, drug trafficking, money laundering, and public corruption cases — including his role in the indictment of the Arellano Felix drug cartel. This work gave him a deep understanding of how federal prosecutions are built.

Since entering private practice, John Kirby has defended clients in federal courts across the country for more than 25 years.

John Kirby has appeared in coverage on ABC, CBS, NPR, Good Morning America, and Univision. In 2024, he secured a Presidential Clemency grant from President Biden for a client serving a life sentence.
